Walks Around Coed y Brenin

Coed y Brenin, the King's Forest, covers some 9000 acres north of Dolgellau in Gwynedd. It straddles the Eden, Gain, Mawddach and Wen rivers and is bisected by the main A470 road between Dolgellau and Trawsfynydd. The area is renowned for its spectacular mountain scenery (the wild Rhinog mountains lie to the west of the forest and the remote peaks of Dduallt and Rhobell Fawr to the east), its river valleys with their rapids and waterfalls, its gold mines and its remote farms. The Roman road, Sarn Helen, passes through the forest on its way between the forts at Tomen y Mur, near Trawsfynydd, and Brithdir, near Dolgellau. The six starting points for the walks were chosen to give the visitor as varied an experience of Coed y Brenin and its topography as possible. The book contains directions for 20 walks.
